The Breitenbush Alliance Earth Day Event, hosted by Breitenbush Hot Springs Retreat & Conference Center, Breitenbush Cabin Owners Association, and two all-volunteer federal nonprofits, Breitenbush Fire Department, and Friends of the Breitenbush Cascades, is a multi-day experience designed to unite people in service, education, and celebration of the natural world. This gathering represents the next phase of landscape restoration on public lands impacted by the 2020 Oregon wildfires, bringing communities together to actively support long-term ecological recovery in the Breitenbush region.

Set among the springs and forests of Breitenbush, participants are invited to stay on-site in simple, nature-immersed lodging and enjoy nourishing vegetarian meals prepared by the Breitenbush kitchen. Throughout the weekend, attendees have access to the hot springs, and sauna, labyrinth, and quiet spaces for reflection, as well as opportunities for stargazing and rest beneath the night sky.

This event brings together BIPOC allies, recreation and conservation partners, and community members to participate in a variety of activities, including:

  • Volunteer Stewardship (Required): All participants are expected to complete a minimum of 8 hours of volunteer stewardship over the weekend, fulfilled through a combination of hands-on land care projects and educational workshops. Activities may include invasive plant removal, native planting, trail restoration, habitat protection, and other land care efforts, alongside workshops focused on conservation practices, Indigenous ecological knowledge, and sustainable land management.
  • Educational Workshops: Learn from experts about conservation practices, Indigenous ecological knowledge, and sustainable land management.
  • Community Connection: Group gatherings, reflection sessions, and shared meals to strengthen bonds with fellow participants and the land.
  • Wellness & Nature Experiences: Enjoy the restorative hot springs, sound healing, mindful movement sessions, and other wellness activities that nourish body, mind, and spirit.

Through these experiences, participants actively contribute to the care of the land while cultivating a deeper sense of belonging, wellbeing, and stewardship. Participation in volunteer stewardship is a required component of this event, with all attendees engaging in hands-on service and learning throughout the weekend. Whether you’re drawn to conservation work, learning from Indigenous and ecological knowledge, or being part of a purpose-driven community in a healing natural setting, the Breitenbush Earth Day Event offers a meaningful way to honor our planet and build community through service.

Pricing, Accessibility & Shared-Cost Model

In the spirit of public land access and stewardship, this event is offered through a shared-cost model supported by grant funding and partner contributions, helping reduce financial barriers for participants.

Breitenbush Hot Springs & Retreat Center has generously provided an in-kind contribution covering 50% of all lodging, meal, and soaking costs for this event, making it possible to offer significantly reduced rates while honoring the true cost of hosting and care of the land. Friends of the Breitenbush Cascades (FBC), a nonprofit organization, is contributing an additional 25% of overall event costs, supported in part by grant funding, to further reduce financial barriers and support affordable participation.

This gathering is rooted in shared stewardship and collective care.  By participating, you are supporting ongoing restoration, education, and community-led efforts to protect and regenerate the Breitenbush landscape for generations to come.
