About the event

Contact improvisation, a dance form characterized by spontaneous movement and physical interaction, found a nurturing home at the Breitenbush Hot Springs in Oregon. This serene location has hosted the annual Breitenbush Contact Improvisation Jam for over four decades, providing a unique confluence of nature, creativity, and community.

Breitenbush Hot Springs, known for its healing waters and tranquil surroundings, became the perfect venue for this immersive dance experience. The combination of the pristine wilderness and the supportive atmosphere cultivated by the retreat center allowed for deep exploration and connection among participants.

Over the years, the Breitenbush Jam has grown from a small gathering of dedicated dancers to a celebrated event attracting participants from around the globe. It has become a vibrant community where dancers of all levels come together to share their passion for movement and improvisation. The jam emphasizes inclusivity, encouraging dancers of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to participate.

As the Breitenbush Contact Improvisation Jam celebrates its 41st anniversary, it continues to honor its roots while embracing innovation and growth. This milestone is a testament to the enduring appeal of contact improvisation and the vibrant community that has formed around this annual event.

What to expect 

Open dancing, contemplative dance practice, and structured warm-ups, are a deeply enriching experience. These sessions invite participants to embrace their true essence and cultivate mastery over their understanding and actions. Within each day, a dedicated environment is fostered for exploration, encouraging attendees to delve into practices of self-care and empathy towards others. Beyond the dance, the Breitenbush Jam fosters a strong sense of community. Participants engage in group activities, communal meals, and evening gatherings that enhance the shared experience and create lasting friendships.

Accommodations 

When attending the Breitenbush Contact Improvisation Jam, participants have a variety of accommodation options to ensure a comfortable stay amidst the serene environment of Breitenbush Hot Springs.

If you have preferred roommates please email breitenbush.reunion.jam@gmail.com or one person can register other roommates directly through Breitenbush registration. Please indicate if you want to be alone in a cabin. We will provide you with a registration link shortly. 

*Note, prices will increase for all new registrations made on or after January 1st. People who register before that date will get current pricing listed below. Meals are included in the price.

Cost before Jan. 1st, 2025 , ranges from $835—to-$1610.  After Jan. 1st 2026 cost ranges from  $895—to-$1695.

Every accommodation option allows guests to enjoy the beauty and healing atmosphere of Breitenbush Hot Springs. Early booking is recommended as spots fill up quickly during the jam. Whichever option you choose, you will find a welcoming and rejuvenating environment to complement your experience.
