Bodhi and Leilah Be
Leilah and Bodhi, married for 41 years, are a dynamic couple. The love between them is an example of ‘doing the work of waking up..’ One can feel the grace and magnetism which radiates between them. It is inspiring to witness a couple who dedicate themselves to Love, and with great intention work to purify their thoughts, words, and actions. Bodhi and Leilah are long-time Maui residents and organic, off-the-grid homesteaders in the jungle of Haiku, where, with their kids and grandkids grow community and gardens.
Reverend Bodhi Be
Reverend Bodhi Be is an ordained minister in the Sufi lineage of Hazrat Inayat Khan and Sufi Sam Lewis.
He is the founder and executive director of Doorway Into Light (DIL), a nonprofit organization on Maui which provides conscious and compassionate care for the dying, their families and the grieving, and has been offering community educational programs and trainings since 2006 in the fields of awakened living and dying and the care of the dying and the dead. Ram Dass, a co-founder, board member, mentor and friend helped guide DIL until his death and gave us permission to use his name for The Ram Dass Institute of Psychedelic Studies with the Dying.
In 2012 Doorway Into Light opened the US’s only nonprofit funeral home that serves people of all faiths. Its storefront ‘The Death Store’ is a community educational resource center providing free education, support and counsel.
Since 2017 DIL has been offering trainings and certification for death doulas.
Bodhi is a funeral director, an end-of-life and bereavement counselor and educator; a teacher and trainer of death doulas; a grief counselor/cheerleader; a speaker and workshop leader: a hospice volunteer. He has trained hundreds of doctors, nurses, hospice staff, social workers, ministers, chaplains, therapists, artists and lay people in the logistical, emotional/psychological and spiritual care of the dying and the care of the dead.
As a ceremonial guide Bodhi leads memorial and funeral services and community grief rituals.
Leilah Be
Leilah Be is a senior teacher in the Sufi Ruhaniat International.
In 1975, she was introduced to the teachings of Hazrat Inayat Khan whose message was the Unity of Religious Ideals, known as the Path of the Heart. Three years later, she met Sufi Sheikh Yakzan Valdez and was deeply inspired by his living example of Loving Presence and felt her path and purpose being revealed. In 1985, a very strong vision of and inner direction from Murshid Samuel Lewis guided her to take initiation with his direct disciple, Pir Moineddin. The blessing of the lineage was then fully opened.
Leilah began leading the Dances of Universal Peace and the practice of Zikar (Remembrance of God) in the early 80’s. She has composed many beautiful circle dances and Zikars, danced the world over. She teaches on Maui and leads retreats throughout the US. She is a spiritual guide to some and a friend to many. Her attunement to expansive awareness is contagious.
