Jazzminh Moore
Jazzminh was the first child born into the Breitenbush Hot Springs Community back in 1978, in a little cabin across the river, before the co-op officially opened to the public. She spent the carefree summers of her childhood there, racing along forest paths, climbing trees, and plunging into the icy river on hot summer days. In lieu of a television or other mainstream distractions, Jazzminh spent hours drawing and painting.
After high school, she attended Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, earning a Bachelor of Fine Art degree, magna cum laude, with a focus on Drawing and Painting. Jazzminh went on to complete a Master of Fine Art degree at CSULB in 2005. She spent the next decade building an art career in urban centers. This effort culminated in gallery representation in New York City’s Chelsea arts neighborhood, after which Jazzminh moved back to the west coast to be closer to nature and family. She is currently raising her daughter in rural Mendocino County.
Jazzminh teaches in the art department at Mendocino College, offering classes including Beginning Drawing, Color & Composition, Figure Drawing, and Portrait Painting. She also serves as Gallery Director and Curator for the Mendocino College Art Gallery. To view her work, please visit http://www.jazzminhmoore.com.
It is through art that Jazzminh has maintained a strong connection to Breitenbush Hot Springs as an adult. Many of the artworks on view around Breitenbush were painted by her, including the Milky Way mural and Welcome Guest signage in the Lodge Lobby. Landscape paintings from her 2012 BHS Artist Residency greet guests in the Welcome Center, with prints available for purchase in the Gift Shop. Also available are the BHS Phoenix Rising T-shirts Jazzminh designed after the devastating 2020 fire.
Jazzminh has offered arts workshops to both staff and guests for over 10 years. She is thrilled to be returning to this sacred land for our ‘Portraits of Trees’ drawing workshop this summer!
